Mothersbond, a leading mother and childcare online platform, has cautioned breastfeeding mothers to be wary of taking slimming tea and slimming tablets while breastfeeding, warning that such products may be harmful to the babies they are nursing.
Mothersbond Director of Customer Experience, Michael Osuji, in a statement explained that slimming tea and herbs should be used appropriately based on prescription .
As promoters of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of baby’s life, he noted that mothers, according to Mothersbond findings, complained that their babies were underweight despite exclusively breastfeeding them.
He said: “A close look at the diet of some of our moms showed that in order to lose weight gained during pregnancy they opt for slimming teas and pills. What they don’t realise is that their baby is also taking the slimming tea through the breast milk.
“Do not take slimming tea while breast feeding. We have researched this topic and have seen that there is significant relationship between infant weight loss and maternal diet.”
