CHIEFTAINS of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Chief Dafe Ogheneovo, Johnson Afejuku and Diokpa Joel Ugbaja, have called on the national leadership of the party to intervene in the crisis rocking the state chapter, if the party plans to win the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Warri, weekend, the party chieftains urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the macabre dance of shame and attempt to sabotage his fight against corruption and electoral malpractices, which they alleged was playing out in Delta State, saying if not checked, it could lead to a repeat of 2015 poor performance of the party in the state.
They condemned Chief Otega Emerhor’s attempt to singlehandedly zone the governorship slot to the Delta North, even when the chairman of the party in the state, Prophet Jones Erhue, had stated clearly that there was no zoning of the governorship position in the state.
According to them, “The state’s working committee of the party, which is the highest decision making body, has through the party chairman issued a statement declaring that the governorship position is open to all APC members in the state irrespective of tribe and senatorial district.”
They alleged that the call by Emerhor for the governorship ticket to be zoned to Delta North “is as a result of an alleged agreement he had with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa that after his second tenure in 2023, PDP will support Emerhor in 2023 to win the primaries and the governorship position in any party he prefers.”
