ABEOKUTA—Ahead of the 2019 general elections in Ogun State, no fewer than seven political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, APC, have thrown their weight behind the governorship ambition of Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi.
The parties, apart from the APC, including the Accord party, Action Democratic Party, ADP, Labour Party, LP, Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, jointly pledged their support for the speaker.
The parties made the declaration at a solidarity rally held in support of his gubernatorial ambition organised in his hometown, Ayetoro area of Yewa north in Ogun west senatorial district, under the auspices of the Ayetoro solidarity forum.
The chairmen, who took turns to speak, include; ADP chairman, Olaleye Kamilu, UPN Adelekan Abdulateef, Abel Olaleye, Accord and Adekunle Dara, APC.
In his remarks, the Speaker, who expressed delight over the development, said: “To the good people of Ogun State, I want to appeal to you all across the three senatorial districts, please continue to support me till we all achieve victory together.” Meanwhile, I want to enjoin you all to go and collect your Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs, because that is your bargaining power.”
In his speech, the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulazeez Adelakun pledged his support for the Speaker adding that he was ready, alongside other traditional rulers in Yewaland, to support Adekunbi.
Adelakun said: “The whole of Ayetoro is ready to support him in the governorship race alongside other traditional rulers here in Yewaland. This time, we are ready to support our own, and everyone is going to support him including the Obas, Imams and the pastors.”
