DUTSE—UNICEF has pledged to execute water project worth N6 billion in Jigawa State.
The Managing Director, Rural and Water Supply and Sanitation, RUWASA, Engr. Labaran Adamu, who revealed this during a visit to the Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government, said UNICEF has selected Birnin Kudu, Roni and Birniwa councils to compete for the project.
Adamu, who was represented by Engr. Kamaluddeen Ahmed, explained that any of the three that excels in environmental hygiene, particularly in access to toilet and provision of soap or ash to wash afterwards, will win the project.
Responding, the council chairman, Alhaji Sani Audu, vowed to utilise all available resources for public enlightenment to strengthen the personal and environment cleanness in the area.
He said workers will be mobilised for door-to-door campaign against open defecation and promotion of personal hygiene.

His words: “We will do everything possible to strengthen the culture of public and personal hygiene among our people, not only towards winning the project, but also to ensure a healthier and productive society.”
