UGHELLI— CHAIRMAN, Ughelli South Local Government State of Delta State, and Dr. Richard Kofi has inaugurated a 16-man taskforce committee to stem clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the area.
The committee which has membership drawn from the security agencies, traditional rulers, clergies, Muslim community and locals, has been inaugurated.
Speaking at the council secretariat, Otu-Jeremi, venue of the inauguration ceremony, Kofi who is also the chairman of the committee, noted that the activities of some herdsmen in the area portends grave danger to lives and property of the people.
He said: “All herdsmen within the council are to register and have their biometrics taken after which they will be given identity cards that will be valid within the area alone and anyone without the Identity Card will not be allowed to operate within Ughelli South.”
Speaking on behalf of members of the committee, the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, HRM Matthew Egbi, Owhawha I, enjoined the leader of the cattle rearers to take the meeting serious, so farmers and herdsmen will have respect for each other, work and live harmoniously.
