Lafarge empowers 10 host communities with development project in C’River

In its avowed commitment to empower host communities, Lafarge Africa Plc is set to inaugurate over 50 development projects in Cross River to mark this year community day celebration.


The community day celebration which commenced on February 6 and expected to be rounded off on February 23 at Mfamosing captured 10 host communities in Akamkpa, Akpabuyo and Calabar Municipality LGAs which will participate in the event.

Speaking during the launch of the Mfamosing Community day on Monday in Calabar, the plant manager of Lafarge Africa Plc’s 5mmt cement plant in Mfamosing, Cross River state, Peter Robson, said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen relationship between Lafarge, host communities and the Cross River state government.

His words:“The essence of this initiative is to further demonstrate our commitment to supporting community development in line with the 2030 development ambition, one of which focuses on people and communities.

“The building solutions and infrastructure company will continue to support and empower host communities in order to improve the quality of their lives and stimulate sustainable development which will invariably lead to unprecedented growth in such communities.

“There are basic needs by the communities that have been identified and we want them to feel our presence because we have also enjoyed a peaceful environment provided by them and this is our own way of giving back and bringing growth and development to them,” he said.

He listed activities planned to mark the Community Day celebrations include to Football tournament, commissioning of completed Community Development projects and Quiz Competition among school children.

According to him, the plant at Mfamosing plant has 10 partnering communities cutting across Akamkpa, Akpabuyo and Calabar Municipality LGAs of Cross River State and they have basic needs that have been identified.

He added that the company has enjoyed a harmonious working relationship with the communities and promised that they would not relent in their commitment to the social and economic development of the various communities.

Vanguard learned that the project include, Town Halls, Classroom blocks, boreholes ,school bags and other learning materials, library ,laboratories as well as safety kits for students .
