BENIN— CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, has denied rumours making the rounds in Edo State that he was planning to defect from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to All Progressives Congress, APC, saying: “I have not told anybody that I was leaving PDP.”
Senator Urhoghide made the refutation in Benin City, while speaking with journalists shortly after empowering widows, youths, market women among other groups with various items worth millions of Naira.
Among items given out were 48 motorcycles, 46 generating sets, 46 Tricycles, 45 sewing machines, 10 deep freezers, 22 grinding machines, five threshing machines among others.
He said, “Let me make one point clear, I am a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I used the platform of the PDP to get to the Senate. I am not overtly partisan or mentioning party. I came from the ACN to the PDP.
“Today, over 50 per cent of the people I saw here are not PDP members, even 60 or 70 per cent of them are not PDP members, but of course, I have my party (PDP) leaders here.
“Somebody represented the Secretary to the State Government here today and if I have made it overtly partisan, the SSG would not have sent a representative to witness this occasion. So, whether somebody is going to APC or PDP, I have friends across, I will not despise anybody. I am a PDP member.”
