Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingoes face a daunting task this afternoon in Yaounde, when they face their Cameroonian counterparts in the second leg qualifier of the 2018 FIFA U17 Women World Cup.
The first leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City, ended 2-2 and the Flamingoes, who have never failed to qualify for the World Cup would have to dig deep to avoid missing out for the first time.
The Flamingoes dominated the first leg encounter but were goal shy. Precious Vincent and Osaretin Ikekhua got the goals for Nigeria in Benin City. However, Coach Bala Nikyu says many more of his outfield players are capable of putting the ball in the net when the die is cast in Cameroon.
The Flamingoes were part of the inaugural party in New Zealand in 2008, and also featured at the 2010 (Trinidad and Tobago), 2012 (Azerbaijan), 2014 (Costa Rica) and 2016 (Jordan) editions. Nikyu coached the team at the two last editions of the FIFA World Cup.
