Do you know that Thank you is a sign of appreciation and a mark of humility? Do you even know that appreciation is the gateway to success and a channel to more favours? Yes, the more we express appreciation the more we are likely to receive more favours. In fact, the most favourable people on earth are the most grateful people. The grateful ones are those who know when and how to express their appreciation.
For the grateful ones, nothing is too small and nothing is too poor—they remain ever grateful! Appreciation is therefore a sign of inner satisfaction. It is the deepest expression of contentment, approval and admiration. If I may ask, how often do you express your appreciation?
One of the commonest ways to express our appreciation is by saying “Thank You!” Thank you is not just an ordinary phrase; it is among the most influential word in life. It is a word that is globally accepted as an expression of appreciation. Considering the importance and indispensible role of Thank you, the UN General Assembly has set aside January 11 as World Thank You Day. It is not just a day to reflect on the importance of Thank you but also a day to express our thanks to those who deserve it. These includes:
God: is our Creator and the creator of heaven and earth. He is our Provider, He provides for all our needs. He is our Protector, He protects and guides us against our enemies. He is the One that sustains our lives. He defends us against evil charg-es. He is our Redeemer and Restorer, He restores whatsoever the evil one has taken away from us. Most of the favours we have received here on earth come directly from God. To Him be glory and praise both now and forevermore. Amen!
Our Parents: are the ones that gave birth to us. They are the channel through which God brought us into this world; they were the ones that nurtured us. They trained us in informal education. They sponsored our formal education. We remain ever grateful to our parents!
Our Teachers: are those who train and educate us intellectually, morally and even physically. Apart from our parents, the most important people in our lives that deserve our thanks are our teachers. Most of the knowledge we have today were transmitted to us through our teachers.
Our Priests, Pastors and Prophets: are those who cater for our spiritual and moral wellbeing. They, especially our spiritual directors, are the ones who take care of our spiritual growth and nourishment. They often use the word of God to shape our lives. They usually intercede for us and above all they mediate between us and God.
Our Leaders: Have you ever imagined a society without leaders? Leaders are the ones that take vital decisions on our behalf and for the wellbeing of the society. Thank you our leaders!
Our Benefactors: are those who support our vision and our projects. They do so through moral and financial support. A tree cannot make a forest. We cannot succeed with divine and human support. As people support us we really need to show appreciation.
Our Drivers: are those who convey us in a car or vehicle from one place to another. As long as our journeys are concerned, our lives depend on the drivers. Each time we travel safely without accident and without any robbery attack on our way, we should say “Thank you” to our drivers.
Our Security Men: are those who sacrifice their lives to ensure that we are secured. Most of them often sleep outside or at the security post to ensure that their masters are well protected. They are ever ready to die in place of their masters. Each time you remember the risk and the sacrifices they make, we say Thank you.
Finally, I want to thank you, my dear readers, for your encouragement. In a special way I thank those of you who usually comment on my write-ups. Your comments and suggestions have really improved my writing skill.
Child of God, now that you have known the importance of thank you, I hope you will continue to be grateful to God and to all the people around you. God bless you as you express your appreciation to those concerned! As you continue to use the word Thank you, you shall receive more favours both from God and from your fellow human beings.
Above all, I thank the Almighty God for the gift of life, the gift of our families and friends and well wish-ers. We also thank God for the gift of inspiration, wisdom and understanding. May His name be glorified both now and forevermore – Amen!
