CALABAR—There was pandemonium in the early hours of yesterday, when the A-Line section of the Ika-Ika Oqua Market, popular known as Marian Market, in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area, Cross River State, was gutted by fire.
Vanguard gathered that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge due to high voltage with no fewer than 20 lock up shops, as well as other kiosks, razed.
It was gathered that mostly affected were traders who deal on baby wares, kitchen utensil, as well as some industrial tools among others.
A victim, Mr. Friday Uzoma, said he lost nothing less than N2 million worth of goods to the fire as well as cash from items he sold two days before the disaster, which he claimed was about N400,000.
