UK-based magazine The Economist has distanced itself from an article that has been circulating on social media that was purportedly written and published by the magazine.
The article was published under the headline, ‘The Unprecedented Level Of Patience Shown To Buhari’, was quoted by some websites as sourced from the London-based magazine.
However, in a statement on the matter, The Economist Africa Editor, Jonathan Rosenthal, said the renowned magazine never published the article.
Rosenthal said: “It has come to my attention that an article has been circulating on social media and been published on various websites that purports to have been written or published by The Economist.”
“The article with the headline ‘The Unprecedented Level Of Patience Shown To Buhari’’, was not written nor published by The Economist. Any claims connecting it to The Economist are false,” the statement read.
Further checks by our correspondent revealed that the article was first published by an online newspaper.
