President of the South African Modern Pentathlon Association, Peter Oosthuizen has high hopes on the chances of his country’s contingent to qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympics holding in Argentina.
Oosthuizen who is leading a contingent of four male and two female athletes for the first Senior African Championship and Youth Olympic qualifier holding in Lagos has said that they have prepared well for the tournament and don’t see any country in Nigeria that can truncate his country’ s progress to the Youth Olympics.
“We are anticipating our athletes will do well to qualify for Buenos Aires. He added, “for now we don’t feel threatened by any country as we have prepared well for the events.”
Oosthuizen said he had no complaint with either the weather or facilities put in place for the tournament.
“We are used to warm weather,” he said, and the facilities on ground conform with international standard. I am pleased with what I have seen. The people of Nigeria too are very hospitable.” Oosthuizen said.
