Royal fathers meet in Rivers, insist on devolution of power

By Davies Iheamnachor

Top royal fathers from all the ethnic nationalities of the nation are arriving in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, to meet and discuss the nation’s unity.

The Port Harcourt International Airport Omuagwa, was busy from dusk to down, yesterday, with the influx of respected chiefs from all parts of Nigeria.

The meeting which is expected to hold today (Saturday) at Eleme Local Government Area of the state, would be an avenue for the monarchs to share ideas on how the nation’s unity would be protected and sustained.

Speaking on arrival at the Airport, one of the guests for the meeting, His Royal Highness, Rassheed Alcambi Tellu, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Osun State, told newsmen that the meeting was to foster togetherness among traditional rulers in the nation and the different ethnic groups.

Tellu noted that it was wrong for individual groups to through agitations threaten the nation’s unity, adding that the traditional rulers would also in the meeting call the attention of the Federal Government on devolution of power.

However, Chief (Dr.) Bright Alabi, the Chairman of Yoruba Community in Rivers and Bayelsa States, called for peace among the aggrieved people of the nation, adding that ethnic agitations are causing fear and underdevelopment.
