According to her, the centre will help to alleviate the sufferings of widows and orphans of the naval family.

Newsmen report that the centre was opened at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) WEY, Navy Town in Ojo.

“Also, accessibility to several places where such training are done is very poor, and as such, many find themselves not engaged in any meaningful trade.

“It is hoped that with the pocket friendly rates that will be charged for the various training, people will avail themselves the opportunity to acquire a skill,” she said.

Ibas said that women’s contribution was crucial to the survival of households through which families can  escape poverty.

“When women earn an income, they are more likely to spend it on food, education and healthcare of their children and families.

“We have uncovered effective ways to strengthen women’s economic contributions and reduce their vulnerability to poverty, especially,  in the event of spouse demise,” she said.

Earlier, the Special Guest, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, who inaugurated the building, said the philanthropic activities of NOWA had continued to bring succour to the weary and needy.
