Jos—The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development’s Mining Implementation and Strategy Team, MIST, saddled with the responsibility of bringing out a road map for the growth and development of the mining industry, has said the sector may not realise its full potential, if the needed enabling environment was not created.
Addressing participants at a sensitisation workshop for mining and mineral processing in Jos yesterday, MIST Chairman, Professor Gbenga Okunlola, said: “If the stakeholders are not carried along, the road map would only be a policy on paper without any impact on the economy,’’ he said.
Also, the Ministry’s Director, Policy, Research and Statistics, Davis Olapade, who explained what the road map entailed and how to achieve its aims, lamented undue interference by communities and state governments.
Earlier, President of Miners’ Association of Nigeria, Sani Shehu, lauded MIST’s efforts at reviving the sector.
