WARRI—The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC has commended the member representing Warri federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju for sponsoring the bill to establish a federal polytechnic in Koko, noting that the establishment of a polytechnic will give the people a sense of belonging.
INYC in a statement, yesterday, signed by its President, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, said: “There is no federal presence in Itsekiri land despite accounting for 30 per cent crude oil production in Nigeria.
“The Itsekiri nation is the highest producer of oil and gas in Delta State and also the second highest producer of oil and gas in Nigeria but has nothing to show for its contribution to the federal account.
“The establishment of the federal polytechnic will reduce the tension in the area.
“We urge the National Assembly and the Senate to hasten the passage of the bill to avert the looming crisis in the region.
“’The establishment of a federal polytechnic in Koko cannot be compared to the contribution of Chevron Nigeria limited, SPDC, NPDC, Escravos gas to liquid project with the host of other oil and gas facilities operating in our territory.”
