THE Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, NICE, has disclosed that it has entered a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, in its efforts to tackle the infiltration of quacks into the building profession.

The body made this disclosure in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, weekend, during its induction and award ceremony tagged: ‘’Challenges of Infrastructural Development in the Niger Delta.’’

National Chairman of NICE, Engr. Hon. Andem Ekpo-Bassey, expressed worries over the infiltration of the profession by quacks who pose as certified engineers, stating that the MoU with ICPC would provide stringent punishment for anyone caught.

Ekpo-Bassey revealed that quacks are the major challenge facing civil engineering as a profession, adding that their activities have led to several devastations in the country.

He said: “Infiltration of quacks into the profession is the most serious challenge we are facing as professionals.”
