OWERRI—THE end has not come for 2018 Imo State Budget controversies following its failed presentation, as Imo Assembly, yesterday, denied suspending the clerk of the House, Mr. Chris Duru.
It will be recalled that the people of the state, were thrown into a shock, as the Imo lawmakers could not show up for budget presentation.
However, the House came out from Thursday sitting, with the story of suspending the clerk of the House, through a motion raised by the majority leader, Mr. Lugard Osuji.
However, the Speaker, Mr Acho Ihim, who seemed to be against such a move, had come out to say that it was not true, but disclosed that a committee was set up to look into the issue of “gross misconduct” by the clerk raised by Osuji.
The position of the Speaker was made clearer through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Marcel Ekwezuo, who said that the members of the public should not jump into a conclusion until the allegations were substantiated and that the committee has a week to submit it’s report.
Ekwezuo said: “Imo State House of Assembly, has debunked the various mass media reports falsely claiming that Clerk of Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Chris Duru has been suspended from office.
“A five-man committee led by Honourable Kennedy Ibeh, member representing Obowo State Constituency was set up to investigate activities of the Clerk beginning from 2011 till date to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the allegation against Mr. Chris Duru.”
