In a statement signed by his Principal Secretary, Clement Nweke, Umahi said Nwankwegu was relieved of his appointment for “acts inconsistent with his official duties.”
The statement further directed the former commissioner to hand over government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice in the state.
Umahi had in March this year suspended the Attorney-General indefinitely and later recalled him a month after following pleas from different quarters.
The governor suspended Nwankwegu for alleged indiscipline and dereliction of duties.
Nwankwegu is the first Commissioner in the state to be relieved of his duty since the present administration came on board on May 29, 2015.
