By Bala Ajiya

DAMATURU—Over N3 million worth of assorted food items have been impounded by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, in Yobe State.

This was disclosed to Vanguard in an interview by Yobe State Coordinator of SON, Dr. Zainab Umar, in Damaturu.

She said the impounded food items lacked due process in their importation, coupled with inferior qualities, which make them harmful for human consumption.

According to her, the seized food products include spaghetti, pasta and flour, which were substandard products believed to be smuggled through illegal routes into the country.

She said: “All seized items are stored in Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON’s warehouse, pen-ding further directives from the national headquarters.”

Umar explained that SON’s action was in conformity with its laws, which forbade enlightenment before carrying out any raid at provision stores in the state.
