NAF, FUTA deepen partnership

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, and Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, have put in place machinery to further deepen their relationship towards sustaining an existing Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, and other allied collaborations in the areas of engineering, meteorology and digital sciences.

The MoU, part of which include maintenance and repairs of NAF aircraft, signed about five years ago, allowed FUTA’s engineers to be deployed to join a team that repaired some NAF aircraft in Port Harcourt.

Leading a team from the Air Force High Command to explore ways of deepening the collaboration, Chief of Air Staff of NAF, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by Chief of Standard and Evaluation, NAF headquarters, Air Vice Marshall Kingsley Lar, stated the readiness of NAF to tap into FUTA’s expertise in areas of the university’s core competence.

Responding, FUTA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, said the institution has the capacity to collaborate with NAF and several reputable organisations, adding that the Force can benefit from FUTA’s technical know-how in climate science, space research and applica-tions, and allied fields.

Professor Fuwape told his guests that FUTA, in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, is the first institution to launch a satellite in Nigeria and has the capacity to develop digital map of any environment, which will be of great help to the Air Force’s operations.
