ASABA—DELTA State Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee, MIREMCO has reiterated its determination to establish workable synergies between miners and host communities so as to curtail the activities of miners in the state.

Speaking at Asaba during a meeting between members of the committee, miners and other stakeholders in the state, Chairman of the Committee, John Edijala lamented that most of the host communities were in court over a series of disagreements,

While assuring that  the stakeholders would  be brought together for out of court settlement to make mining beneficial to host communities, he said the committee was out to protect the interest of Deltans without encroaching on anybody’s job.

Edijala disclosed that  one of their objectives was to  pay visits to host communities and  miners and make sure they relate very well for the progress of the residents and the state at large.

Commenting on the problem of multiple revenue collection, he assured that the committee would liaise with local government councils, federal, state agencies and stakeholders to strategize on how to  centralize the modalities for the collection of the taxes, raise the state Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, to enable it check illegal miners.
