Lagos—A 32-year-old man, Benjamin Agbogu, who allegedly stole N10 million from a businessman, was, yesterday, arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

Agbogu, whose occupation and residential address were not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, preferred against him by the Police.

The prosecutor, ASP Henry Obiazi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the alleged offences sometime in April 2016, at Festac Town, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant accosted the complainant, one Chukwu Chinedu, and forcefully stole N10 million from him.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 287 (5) (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga, granted him bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed, and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.

Sonuga adjourned the case until December 5 for mention.
