PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, weekend, flagged off its campaign for the January 6, 2018 local government elections in Delta State.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa urged PDP members   in the state to remain united and committed to the ideals of the party for it to emerge victorious at the elections.

He said: “We believe in democracy and strongly believe that people’s votes must count in every election. We will campaign vigorously. We start early and sustain the tempo till the end.”

The governor who also spoke at Akwukwu-Igbo and Asaba added: “You cannot sit in your house and expect to win elections. You have to tell the people what you have for them. So for us in PDP, in every election, because we believe in the people, we have the people, we will always win. I am glad there is no crisis in the party in any part of the state.

“As an elder, let your result speak for you. Go out there and campaign, let nobody intimidate you. No result is written elsewhere. Your votes must count, it is when we work together that we will achieve better results.”

Reeling out some programmes executed by his administration in the area, Okowa said that despite the recession that affected the country, his administration was not indebted to civil servants and has executed several projects across the state, including the construction of bridges to connect Ijaw communities to the upland.

Commending the people for their support for his administration, he assured the people that the PDP government will continue to deliver on its electoral promises.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, expressed confidence that the PDP will win in the polls.

He said: “There is no other political party in the state. Other political parties should come out and campaign.”

Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, PDP Chieftain, Mr. Emeka Nnwobi, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Chief Dan Okenyi, among others who spoke at the different rallies disclosed that Governor Okowa’s giant steps in the delivery of democratic dividends have made the campaign for the PDP candidates in the area easy, adding that his actions have endeared the PDP to the people.
