President Muhamm-adu Buhari yesterday tasked the Management of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State to come up with science and technology innovations that can help develop agriculture and Argo-allied industries.
But the management of NIPSS told the President that the institute needed endowment fund to tackle decaying infrastructure in view of the poor budgetary allocation.
While receiving part-icipants of the Senior Executive Course 39 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Buhari assured of adequate government funding to address the infrastructure needs of the institute despite the budgetary limitations.
He said despite Nigeria’s significant successes in the area of agriculture and food security, there was need to develop strategies that will sustain the momentum.
The President said only tailored Nigerian solutions could fix Nigeria’s unique problems.
He expressed the readiness of the administration to address the myriads of challenges facing the Institute including infrastructure and manpower for improved performance.
He said, “Today, we are at a very critical juncture of history. The world, as we know it, is changing….We have seen significant shifts across the globe. Whether it is in security, trade, technology, global warming or population demographics, the world has truly changed.
“ Nigeria is not isolated from these trends. We are doing our best to respond to these changes. But we cannot be comfortable with just being a passive nation. We must be proactive.”
