YENAGOA – Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says he is not surprised with the massive development going on in Bayelsa State, a clear testimony to the performance of a governor who knows what good governance is all about.
According to him, Governor Seriake Dickson has proved beyond doubt that he has all it takes to offer good leadership to people of the state and the region as he called for more support for him.
Wike stated this Thursday after a closed door meeting with his Bayelsa State counterpart in Government House, Yenagoa.
The meeting centred on fostering the security of lives and property in Rivers and Bayelsa states, South South integration, political and economic ties among the two sister states.
Accompanied by the former Acting National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, the Rivers governor was full of praise for Governor Dickson for putting in place a state-of-the-art Governor’s Office complex.
He noted that, the PDP and the Ijaw nation are proud of Governor Dickson’s performance in office, which has endeared him to the People of the Niger Delta and beyond.
He said: “First of all, I’m not surprised because Dickson was prepared for the office and so you can see the results. When you are prepared to write an exam, certainly you will pass very well. And so what I have seen today, he has made PDP proud. He has also made the people of Bayelsa State, the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta proud.
Look at the edifice, (new Governor’s Office), it was not there before. I’m so happy. In fact, I was telling him, that I thought we have an office but with what I’ve seen today, I think I’d better have a re-think and see what I’m going to do to my office when I return to Port Harcourt.”
Wike expressed his desire to partner with his Bayelsa counterpart in the area of political economic development as well as develop and share common ideas for the overall good of both states while adding that all is aimed at keeping the South-South zone united as it has always been.
On his part, Dickson thanked Wike for the visit and the kind words he showered on his government, saying he looks forward to working with him more closely to help develop regional integration.
“We talked about a whole lot, security and developmental matters within our region and in our respective states. As we progress you will see all of this unfold and we will do so at the regional level in conjunction with all our brother governors,” Dickson said.
According to Governor Dickson, the meeting also deliberated on how to intensify security and developmental issues in the best interests of the people of the South-South region and particularly the two sister states of Rivers and Bayelsa.
While appreciating the developmental strides of his Rivers State counterpart, Governor Dickson called on Rivers people to sustain their support for the Wike-led administration.
“We have started a process of consultations and interactions which we intend to strengthen and deepen in the interests of the people of our states and in the larger interest of our region and Nigeria.”
