NKIRUKA Nnorom, Capital Market Reporter at Vanguard Newspapers, emerged the winner of this year’s PwC Media Excellence Awards in capital markets reporting, at a ceremony in Lagos, weekend. Nnorom bagged the award with her entry entitled, “Furore over conversion of dollar debts to equity” coming ahead of other entries.
The PwC Media Excellence Awards, established and managed by the world’s leading accounting and management services provider, seeks to recognise and reward excellence in business and financial reporting by celebrating journalists who distinguish themselves in different categories. The award is in four categories – Tax Reporting, Capital Markets Reporting, SMEs Reporting and Business and Economy Reporting.
Winners in other categories include Collins Nweze of The Nation in Tax Reporting, Isaac Anyogu of BusinessDay in SMEs Reporting and Victor Ekualor of Techpoint NG in Business and Economy Reporting. In each category, winners were rewarded with N500,000.
Mr. Uyi Akpata, Country Senior Partner for PwC Nigeria, said following the success the firm had recorded in different fields, it decided to widen its intervention last year by rewarding those journalists who were exceptional in their work and hence the media excellence awards.
He stated: “The number of entries this year tripled compared to that of last year and the quality of entries have gone many notches higher. This only suggests that the awards is striking the right notes and journalists in Nigeria now aspire to a higher level of excellency in their work.
Beyond giving out cash prizes, we hope that this award becomes a motivating factor for journalists working in Nigeria to improve the quality of their reports and take greater interest in business reporting, which is critical to the socio-economic development of our country”.
