By Chioma Onuegbu

THE University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has said that seven physical projects would be inaugurated as part of activities to mark its 2013/2014 and 2015/2016 combined convocation ceremonies on Saturday.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Enefiok Essien, said the projects include 100-capacity lecture theatre (TETFUND project); 500-capacity lecture theatre (TETFUND project); academic staff building for Faculty of Science; students hostel block at Ediene Abak, and renovation/conversion of academic block into Pharmacy classrooms/laboratories.

Speaking during the pre-convocation press conference in Uyo, yesterday, the VC said the university was able to make the modest stride in the last two years despite the national economic recession that brought with it massive reduction in personnel emoluments, capital allocation and full operation of Treasury Single Account.

He said: “I assumed office as vice chancellor at the onset of national economic recession, which brought with it massive reduction in personnel emolument, capital allocation and the full operation of Treasury Single Account. This, notwithstanding, we have made modest strides in the last two years.

“On the development of physical facilities, the university will commission 1000-capacity lecture theatre; 500-capacity lecture theatre; academic staff building for faculty of science; students hostel block at Ediene Abak; renovation/conversation of academic block into pharmacy classrooms and laboratories.”
