Soccer Nation Football Club of Lagos has emerged the winner of the first How Foundation Blue-State Charity football competition held recently at the Road 14 Football pitch in Lekki, Lagos.
The charity competition instituted by How Foundation to create awareness for prostate cancer was held between four teams namely Soccer Nation, Atletico Sports Club, FSG and Access Warriors.
The How Foundation’s Blue-State charity football match was well attended and the essence of the competition was achieved as a lot of people were educated on the dangers of not detecting prostate cancer early enough.
The How Foundation was founded by Dr Herbert Wigwe in July 2016 and their main focus is to help educate on the possibilities of Malaria Eradication in Nigeria, Prostate Cancer awareness and Youth leadership /mentorship programs.
The match was preceded by the speech of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The How Foundation Ms. Antonia Ally, who spoke about prostate cancer amongst men and the threat it poses to families in Nigeria. She also emphasised that early detection is key and that all men from the age of 40 should get checked.
“September is prostate cancer awareness month around the world and prostate cancer is one of the leading curses of death in Nigerian men and a lot of men do not know what it is. So we thought this was just a way to educate, inform and create awareness about prostate cancer. Football, we know, brings us together as a people, so this is just to get people’s attention here; this is part of our objectives at the Foundation,” she stressed.
