Kwese prospect camp 2017 kicks off in Kaduna

All is set for the commencement of the inaugural edition of a basketball youth camp for prospective league players at the outdoor courts of the Murtala Square in Kaduna from Wednesday 18 October to Saturday 21 October, 2017.

The camp tagged KWESE PROSPECT CAMP, is a youth development initiative of the Tijjani Umar led Nigeria Basketball Federation and targeted at grassroot basketball players within the ages of 19 and below aims at honing the character and skills of prospective league and national team players for the big stage.

Giving insight into activities lined up for the camp, the KWESE Premier League Director, Mr Ajibarede Bello, after a Kwese League Management Committee meeting in Abuja, revealed that the main objectives of the intensive 3-day exercise   include mentoring Division 1 and 2 team players as well as products from various academies nationwide on basketball and life skills; identifying future prospects for the Kwese Premier League and National teams, availing senior Kwese League players the opportunity to mentor the young prospects and   for the Kwese players themselves to understudy senior coaches in preparation for future roles as coaches upon retirement.

For the duration of the period, the camp will have morning and afternoon sessions where the campers will be exposed to tips on how to be good and productive citizens, physical development drills, basketball lessons from experienced coaches and mentors as well as exposure to new dynamics of the game like the 3 x3.

All Star games, dribbling and   shooting contest   are other highlights of the camp. The final day of the camp will also see players organized into teams to play a one-day tournament where coaches are expected to scout talents. Participating state associations and academies will receive basketballs, nets, and other basic equipment on the closing day to support their local programs.
