Delta State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to sustain the prevailing peace in oil and gas producing communities in the state.

Chairman, House Committee on Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Daniel Mayuku, who stated this when he led members of the committee to the headquarters of the commission in Warri, on an oversight function, said peace was required at all times for development to thrive in the state, particularly in oil producing communities.

Mayuku said DESOPADEC was established by an act of the state legislature, stressing that the House would do all it could to ensure that the commission succeeds as an interventionist agency.

The lawmaker told the management of DESOPADEC that pre-budget meeting with the committee was necessary to fashion out better ways of drawing a realistic budget, particularly in the area of funding of major capital projects.

The lawmakers were received on arrival by Managing Director of the Commission, Chief Williams Makinde and some management team of DESOPADEC, including Executive Directors and Commissioners representing the ethnic nationalities in the board of the commission.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Commission, Chief William Makinde commended the lawmakers for the working visit.

and appealed to the committee to take it as a critical responsibility to negotiate a better course for DESOPADEC to deliver on its mandate in terms of adequate budgeting and release of funds.

Other members of the committee who accompanied Chairman on the visit, include Azuka Azaka, Johnson Erijo, Oboro Preyor, Samuel Mariere, Daniel Yingi, Angela Nwaka, Peter Uviejitobor and Festus Okoh.
