Gabriel Kingsley, the Head Coach, Oyo State Kickboxing Association (OSKA), on Wednesday urged the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KBFN) to organise another national refresher course for Referees/Coaches and Judges.

Kingsley told newsmen that the programme was necessary to enhance the capacity of the technical officials in the discharge of their duties.

He added that the request was part of the recommendations made by the technical officials at an earlier workshop which took place Lagos in May.

“Refresher course for technical officials is important in any federation that really wants to improve the general standard of its sport which the federation initiated in May.

“The programme really went a long way to bring our coaching skills up to date also impacted our athletes.

“I am speaking the minds of my colleagues because I am in touch with them; I plead with the federation to put up such refresher courses before the third quarter elapse,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Wilson Okon, a board member of KBFN, has told newsmen that the body was aware of the needs of its technical officials.

“Refresher course for technical officials is a priority in our activities but we usually key it into our national championships, making it a dual event, just like we had in May.

“We are also arranging another programme before the year ends, at least to keep the officials and athletes abreast with the latest officiating and fighting techniques,’’ he said.

Newsmen report that the KBFN held a Referees/Coaches and Judges Refresher Course in May in Lagos and had participants from 18 states as well the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police.
