Cleric advises parents against unguarded utterances

Pastor Christopher Olutimi of Word of Life Church, Ilorin, on Wednesday advised parents to be mindful of their utterances in public places to avoid misleading their children.

Olutimi gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin.

He said that most parents used their tongue anyhow both in private and public places not minding the presence of children around them.

According to him, the tongue is a powerful weapon that should be used carefully not to mislead listeners.

“Some parents are fond of uttering negative statements in the presence of their children in their homes.

“At times, they use their tongue to curse and insult people that cross their path.

“It is not fair for any parent to talk anyhow in the midst of children. Children always practice what they see and hear. They try to repeat what their parents say.

“Parents must stop being bad examples to their children. Stop cursing yourselves in the presence of your children.

“Parents must stop pronouncing dirty slang. Learn how to utter positive statements in their presence for the sake of the future,” the cleric stressed.

Olutimi advised parents to train their children with good morals and be exemplary role model to them.
