Salisu Yusuf, Super Eagles Assistant Coach, said on Wednesday that home based- Super Eagles loss to Ghana in the West African Football Union (WAFU) final would not affect the team’s performance in CHAN competition.

Yusuf spoke in an interview with newsmenin Abuja.

The Championship of African Nations (CHAN) will kick off between Jan. 12 and Feb. 12 in a yet to be decided country after CAF stripped Kenya of hosting rights.

Newsmen recall that the Eagles on Sept. 24, lost the final of the WAFU cup 4-1 to the Black Stars.

He said the technical team was working hard to prepare the team for better CHAN outing.

“We are very good in spite losing 4-1 to WAFU host country Ghana. Remember, we were the only team that had clean slate by not conceding goals until the final,” Yusuf said.

The coach who restated his confidence in the players, said football was a game where winning and losing were inevitable, adding that the Eagles were simply unlucky.

He said the team would not only make the country proud at CHAN, but improve on their form.

Nigeria, Ghana and 14 other African countries would be participating in the championship.
