The Sphere, the iconic bronze sculpture that miraculously survived the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center was created by Fritz Koenig. The sculpture that once graced the middle of the World Trade Center plaza was nearly destroyed by the Osama Bin Laden’s attacks, the largest terrorism attack ever carried out against the innocent human race.
After the attacks, the giant bronze orb, now greatly dented but otherwise intact, was installed in Battery Park City, viewed by many as a sign of the world’s and the city’s resilience.
