As things stand, Diego Costa remains Chelsea’s player in the interim as deadline day came and passed without the striker being able to secure a deal to leave the club.

The club confirmed this by including Costa in the list of registered players submitted for the 2017/2018 season.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also joked about Costa remaining at the club when he tweeted ‘SE QUEDA’ which means ‘he remains’ alongside a picture of the pair holding the trophy from last season’s triumph.

Costa fell out with Conte after he got a text from the coach notifying him that he will be surplus to requirement ahead of the new season.

Costa who was also a surprise addition to the Spanish national team for their world cup qualifiers has been on a self imposed exile in Brazil alleging that the club is treating him like a criminal and wants him to train with the reverse team.

Atletico Madrid where he looks at returning to are serving a ban and cannot sign any player till January.
