ABUJA – The embattled Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye was Tuesday absent from his office when officials from the legal department of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC stormed the national assembly to present the court-ordered amended notice of recall and timetable to the lawmaker.
The officials arrived the complex at about 11 am hoping to meet with the senator as the assembly was to resume from its two-months recess on the same day.
With specific instructions to serve the notice on Melaye, the INEC officials made straight for his office only to discover that it was under lock.
Consequently, the officials who appeared unruffled left the documents in various sacks by the door, while they hung around the premises ostensibly to keep vigil on the senator.
Some of the officials were overheard saying that the commission had earlier initiated a channel of communication with the senator, wondering why he has now running away from his office.
Melaye had earlier on Monday said due to the effluxion of time, the 90 days period within which to recall him had lapsed, saying he was not prepared to make himself available to INEC since the process, according to him, is unconstitutional.
