Recall: Group accuses Dino wants to frustrate process

The Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (ISDMG) has alleged that the Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye intends frustrating his recall process following the senator’s earlier refusal to accept the petition served him by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Tuesday.

The group insisted that the recall process of Sen. Malaye must continue.

Senator Melaye had refused to accept the petitions served on him by INEC on the ground that the 90 days stipulated by the 1999 Constitution had elapsed.

But the ISDMG, in a statement signed by its executive director, Dr. Chima Amadi, said the Senator is only trying to frustrate his recall process.

According to him, “We must not allow Senator Dino to ridicule our Constitution and our court. The beauty of democracy is that it allows elected representatives to renew their mandates through legally guaranteed elections or recall process.

“The Senator it was who headed to court while time was counting down, alleging that the process enunciated by INEC abridged his fundamental right to fair hearing. He was heard by our court while the countdown on time was paused; he cannot turn around now and complain about the effluxion of time.”
