The Nigeria Para-swimming Federation is seeking the support of the Federal Government and corporate bodies to participate in the Word Para-swimming Championship, scheduled for Mexico.
The President of the federation, Monday Emoghavwe, told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday that paucity of funds had been a major challenge for the federation.
“We need help from government and private firms to support us with funds whenever we have competitions.
“We have lots of programmes lined up but we cannot execute them because of lack of funds.
“The ministry of youth and sports always supports us whenever we have a competition, we want more from them.’’
Emoghavwe said that the postponement of the World Para-Swimming Championship, slated for Mexico was a blessing to the Federation.
The championship was earlier, scheduled to hold from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 in Mexico but was postponed till further notice.
“We plan to participate in the Word Para-swimming Championship in Mexico. The shift in the date was because of the earthquake in the host country.
“The event was supposed to hold in Mexico City. We will continue to work hard and make sure that we strengthen our athletes before the new date.
“We have athletes who are always ready to represent us whenever we have a competition and they always make us proud,” he said.
