CALABAR – POLITICAL appointees in Cross River State are now living in fear after Governor Ben Ayade ordered an audit of his political appointments to weed out ghost appointees.
This came amidst insinuations that some senior officials were secretly bringing in their cronies among others and causing them to collect fat salaries without the knowledge and consent of the governor invariably over-bloating the wage bills of the state government.
The exercise which commenced yesterday and holding at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, with commissioners and special advisers screened.
A statement by the Secretary to the State government, Tina Banku Agbo, yesterday, said the audit would be conducted in conjunction with the office of Head of Service and the Accountant General of the state.
According to the release, Senior Special Assistants, Personal Assistants and Community Relations Officers, would take their turn on today, while Thursday, September 28 will be the turn of Chairmen/ members of Boards, Commissions and Agencies, Directors General and Heads of extra ministerial departments.
The statement enjoined the affected persons to attend the exercise in person on the date and time specified for them.
