No person has been selected as monarch yet – Regent

Contrary to a recent media report, the Otota/Regent of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri, Delta State, High Chief Wilson Omavowan Eboh, has stated that no person has been selected as the Orosuen (traditional ruler) of the kingdom.

Eboh while reacting to the media report in a press briefing at the palace of the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo, Okumagba Avenue, Warri, noted that there was no time a meeting was held on the selection of an Orosuen at the palace and that it is only the king makers of the kingdom that have the right to select an Orosuen according to the chieftaincy declaration of the ancient Urhobo Kingdom, just as he listed the surviving king makers of the kingdom to include himself as the Chairman, Chief (Pa) Dr. George Amurun, Chief   Dickson Eburu (the oldest person of the kingdom), Professor Paul Okumagba and Chief Emmanuel Omovie.

He pointed out that it is only a sitting monarch that has the right to appoint king makers and that the selected members of the committee said to have selected a new monarch for the kingdom are not chiefs of the kingdom.

The traditional mouth piece of Okere Urhobo kingdom noted that it was the second time he was addressing the press on the false selection of a monarch in the kingdom, disclosing that the alleged masterminds of the media report failed in their attempt to challenge the Okere Urhobo Kingdom Traditional Chieftaincy Declaration in Suit Nos: W/525/2014 and W/197/2012.

He, however, announced that the programme for the selection of the new Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom is on and that a new Orosuen will be presented to the people on Sunday, October 22nd, 2017.

A copy of the programme of activities of the selection of a new Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom shows that the activities for the exercise has begun since Thursday August 24th, 2017 and that it will end on Sunday October 22nd, 2017 when the selected Orosuen will be presented to the people of Okere Urhobo Kingdom by the Otota/Regent of the Kingdom.

He therefore called on government and indeed the general public to ignore   the publication which he described as false and baseless.
