Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, master of all terrain

By Theodore Opara

THE latest edition of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is unarguably one of the most capable sports utility vehicles on Nigerian roads at the moment but not many knew about this. At the official launch of the Pajero Sport in Lagos, two months ago, Massilia Motors, representative of Mitsubishi in Nigeria took the mid-size SUV to one of the toughest terrains in Lagos, the coastal beach line with huge sand deposits that could sink any tough sport utility vehicle but the Pajero Sport was simply at home with the terrain, as it powers its way through the terrain.

Though the Pajero model line has been renowned for its off road prowess, but the Pajero Sport’s capability is unimaginable. Mitsubishi engineers, no doubt were at their best in designing and building the Pajero Sport which resulted in its perfect off and on the road prowess.

Pajero Sport on and off road handling come from the selectable 2WD and 4WD modes (Wheel Drive), an off road mode that enhances traction on demanding surfaces, intelligent assistance in challenging conditions, an advanced suspension and outstanding all-around clearance.

The Pajero Sport can wade through 700mm depth of water without looking back and ramp break-over angle of 23.1 degrees with approach angle of 30 degrees and lateral travel angle of 45 degrees which makes it one of the most confident rides on the road.

Greater safety

Mitsubishi prepares the Pajero Sport for the tough tasks ahead. Using the drive mode selector dial, you can switch between 2WD (2H) and 4WD (4H, 4Hlc) with shift-on-the-fly convenience at up to 100km/h.

Also pressing the Hill Descent Control, HDC mode selector activates, which automatically applies the brakes to maintain your current speed when travelling downhill at two to 20 km/h. This enables you to concentrate on steering and travelling downhill with greater safety without having to manually apply the brakes.

Hill Start Assist (HSA), which prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards while you release the brake, Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) independently regulates braking force to the wheels during cornering to help maintain excellent stability when needed, class leading 5.6m turning radius which make parking and manoeuvring very easy add to make the Pajero Sport a class benchmark.

The Pajero Sport is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 MIVEC engine which supplies strong acceleration even when supplies strong acceleration even when carrying a heavy load or travelling up mountain roads. This engine is supported by 8-Speed automatic transmission, the first by Mitsubishi Motors. This delivers smoother, more luxurious ride and fuel efficiency. Sporty paddle shifters let you shift gears with a press, without removing your hand from the steering wheel.

The Pajero Sport is not all about performance and beautiful designs, it boasts premium comfort and safety. The well-appointed cockpit which surrounds the occupants with array of luxury and intelligent features is not common in Pajero Sport competitors.

From refined meters to sophisticated floor console, every feature is fine-tuned to enhance driving pleasure and keep the driver in confident control. With the three row leather seats which seat seven passengers in comfort, the Pajero Sport offers luxury as a standard feature.

Safety was never compromised in the new Pajero Sport as sophisticated and new safety features intelligently support safer driving by the Pajero Sport.

Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system, forward collision mitigation system, Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body, Rigid lightweight body, pretentioners on the front seatbelts and seven SRS airbags, all work together to prevent and cushion the effects of injuries in the event on an accident.
