IPC urges Delta waterways, JTF to rescue abducted transporter

By Dapo Akinrefon

Ijaw People’s Congress, IPC, has called on chairman of the Waterways and Land Security and Commander of the Joint Task Force in Delta State to assist in the rescue of a prominent transporter, Chief John Ekotoro, who was recently kidnapped in Bayelsa State.

In a statement, National President of IPC, Ekanpou Enewaridideke,  condemned the kidnap of Ekotoro, noting that there was need to eradicate sea piracy in the Niger Delta region.

Enewaridideke, who called on the relevant security agencies in Delta State to ensure Ekotoro’s rescue, said: “He was kidnapped at the jetty of Amantu community in Bayelsa State by pirates on the night of August 31, 2017 at 4.30p.m. His boat plies the rivers of Bayelsa and Delta states though he was kidnapped on the waterside of Amantu community in Bayelsa State.  This kidnap is totally condemnable.

“I hereby,  also condemn the recent killing of soldiers in the river in Bayelsa State. There is no sanity in killing soldiers whose duty it is to protect us. It is condemnable and senseless killing law enforcement agents such as soldiers and the kidnapping of innocent and law-abiding personality like Chief Ekotoro.

“I am, therefore, calling on Chief Boro and the JTF Commander to swing into action because, as security czars, their professionalism could produce results bound to ensure the rescue of Chief Ekotoro from his captors.

“When Bayelsa and Delta aggregate resources in the security front, the results will be amazing with regard to the rescue of Chief Ekotoro, as only a thin geographic line divides the two states.”
