Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, has described the recent appointment of the former Assistant Editor of Punch Newspapers, Fidelis Soriwei, as Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Media Matters, as patriotic and intended to unite the Ijaw nation.
In a statement, Comrade Joseph Evah, stated that this appointment of an Arogbo-Ijaw from Ondo State was in the vision of the founding fathers of Bayelsa, oil Rivers and Toru-Ibe states creation movement, that led to the creation of Bayelsa State for the Ijaw.
“We are proud the governor wants to protect and nourish that spirit”, Evah observed, adding, “The extension of political offices to all Ijaw states from Bayelsa aside the establishment of Ijaw National Academy, the provision of qualitative education for Ijaw children across Niger Delta, as well as the struggle for the creation of more states for the Ijaw, confirms that Bayelsa remains the Jerusalem of all Ijaw worldwide.”
He urged the governor to meet with local government officials to clear salary arrears of teachers to save the life-line of education at the grassroots, adding that the welfare of teachers must be paramount to the ongoing infrastructural development of the government.
