Minna—Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, has appointed Professor Abdullahi Bala the Department of Soil Science and Land Management, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, as its seventh Vice Chancellor.

The appointment was approved by Council during its 125th Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, following the recommendation of the selection committee.

A letter by Pro-Chancellor and Chair-man of Council, Professor Femi Odekunle, said the appointment was for a single term of five years, taking effect from Sunday, December 3.

Bala, who hails from Suleja in Niger State, was born on March 27, 1967.

He attended Dawaki Primary School, Suleja (1973-1979); Federal Government College, Minna, (1979-1984); School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria (1984-1985), and graduated with a Bachelor of Agriculture Degree (1st Class Honours) in 1989.

He obtained his Master’s degree in Soil Chemistry from the University of Reading, United Kingdom, and Doctorate from Wye College, University of London, in Soil Microbiology in 1999.

He joined FUT Minna in 1991 as an Assistant Lecturer and became Professor of Soil Science on October 1, 2010.
