In an effort to further fight erosion menace that has continued to cause harm in Oko, the home town of former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, the community has begun planting of trees with robust root system.

The Chairman of  Ezioko village, Oko, Men’s meeting in Lagos, Mr. Chukwuneke Okafor, in a statement disclosed that over 1,000 trees have already been planted in various erosion sites in the town, including the road leading to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko to stop further  damage in the near  future.

According to him, this was achieved through donations from well-meaning people from the community.

He disclosed that more trees will be planted in every nook and cranny of the town to help fight erosion on a slope by reducing runoff and holding soil in place with their root systems.

He said that more trees will be planted as people donate fund and expressed worry that many houses have been affected by the gully erosion through the years.

Despite the work being done, Okafor said that the Federal government needed to allocate more resources to Anambra State in order to contain the greatest number of erosion sites, especially, Oko/Nanka erosion menace
