BENIN — THE Senator representing Edo South senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, has called on Muslim faithful in Edo State to continue to pray for peace and unity of the country at this trying moments.
Urhoghide, who was at the Benin Cenral Mosque in Benin City to celebrate this years Eid el-Kabir festival, sued for religious tolerance among followers of all religions, sayingthe tension in the country should be doused through constant prayers by religious leaders.
He said what the country needed now was peace, adding: “The lost of confidence in ourselves as a people has been responsible for what is happening in the country now and we will become good citizens if we can co-exist peacefully.
“I came from Abuja to Benin City to join my Muslim brothers and sisters to celebrate this year Sallah. I have always associated with them in the celebration of Sallah and I will continue to do so because this is the only way we can understand ourselves and move our society forward.
“The Sallah celebration is a period of the exchange and sharing of gifts, even Christians also do this during the Christmas celebration. We have underprivileged persons who could not for one reason or the other through no faults of theirs celebrate this Sallah festival. We are here to do the little we can to assist them.”
