The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, NCRIB Building, Yaba, was agog as insurance icons, business associates, friends, relatives, and colleagues from all walks of life gathered to celebrate an insurance icon and teacher, Mr. Etemmua U.O. Chukwuedo, for joining the league of authors.

The event which was well attended was the public presentation of a new book titled, Insurance Underwriting And Communication, a book that provides adequate information about the importance of insurance and its practice in Nigeria.

The chairman of the occasion, Ven. O. Ladipo Ajayi, represented by Olumide Tariola, applauded the author for taking the bold step. He described the author as a humble, dedicated fellow, who is eager to impart knowledge, saying the book is a compendium of the author’s experience as an insurance icon of many decades.

The elated author, Elder Chukwuedo, who described the presentation as a dream come true said that the publication of the book was one of the projects he asked God to keep him alive to fulfill in life. He narrated his journey from the junior level to the managerial level in the insurance industry before retirement, pointing out that at one time, he taught underwriting in many organisations at where students often requested for handouts which has now materialized into a book.

The reviewer, Mr. Isikwei Diei, sub-divided the book into three broad areas: Insurance Principles and Practice; Communication and its importance in the work place and Insurance regulation in Nigeria and the need for growth and development of the sector. “Chukwuedo has been able to show his long years of experience in the industry by blending the theoretical base of Insurance with the hard-nosed day-to- day technical operations of the industry,” he said.

On his part, Prof. Iyiegbuniwe commended the author for writing the book, especially in this area of insurance where many do not know much about; pointing out that the insurance profession in Nigeria will benefit a lot from the experiences of the author.
