Sapele— About 65 years after Sapele Technical College, STC, was founded, the Agbuja Aberenabe family of Okirighwre-Amukpe in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State has asked the state government to return its alleged “300 feet by 1500 feet abutting GTC Road on the left hand side and 300 feet by 1,800 feet abutting River Ethiope,” which the family alleged that government illegally acquired from it when is was locating Sapele Technical College, STC.
In an SOS to the state government, the family, represented by Mr Segun Agbuja, said: “Only 1.5 kilometre square of our farm land made up of rubber plantation was given to the Lieutenant-Governor of Western region, having published notice No. 1654, at page 1378 of the Nigeria Gazette No. 65 of 18/12/1952, to that effect, saying it needed it for maintenance and establishment of a trade centre, which was later contained in the matter of Public land Acquisition Ordinance chapter 185, dated 31/10/1952.
“Since then, government has been, particularly during recent perimeter fencing of the trade centre, now Sapele Technical College, STC, encroaching beyond the 1.5 kilometre square, which we conceded to it, into adjoining portions.
“The areas that government had encroached into measure 300 feet in breadth and 1500 feet in length abutting GTC road on the left hand side and 300 feet in breadth and 1800 feet in length abutting River Ethiope.”
