Civil society organisations in Edo State, Thursday, reiterated their plans to shut down Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, over perceived high-handedness of the company in its dealing with customers.

In a statement by its Public Relations executive, Osazee Edigin, the rights groups said that the shutdown of the company will commence on August 7, as Edo people protest the unfair business activities of BEDC in the state.

They accused BEDC of issuance of outrageous and estimated bills, indiscriminate disconnections of customers, disrespect for customers, high-handedness and refusal to supply prepaid metres, describing the perceived disservice as “unpre-cedented wickedness of the highest order.”

The rights groups condemned the intimi-dation of one Innocent Okpara, who they said was brutalised by the military on the orders of a white man working with BEDC.
